Notice of live Demos
On Thursday, May 20th @ 11 am, the City of Wheaton, Il. will be installing a Flex-Seal Utility Seal internal frame seal. After viewing an installation in Naperville, Il., as well as inspecting some installed in 2005, the City of Wheaton decided to become certified as a Felx-Seal installer in 2009. The City proceeded to install a small scale trial project later in the year. After viewing the seals after a freeze thaw cycle, the City has proceeded to move forward with an aggressive program of identifying leaking manholes and catch basins, and internally sealing them with the Flex-Seal Utility Sealant.
Flex Seal is a brush applied, highly elastic urethane rubber. Flex Seal with proper installation conforms to any shape manhole giving the owner a custom made rubber boot preventing rain induced inflow through the chimney area of a manhole. Several studies have pointed at the chimney area of the manhole to be the most cost effective method of reducing rain induced inflow, and no product works as well as Flex Seal for this application.
City personnel will be on hand as well as Kami Hall Lienau(Municipal Pipeline Technologies), William Goff (SSI Sealing Systems, Inc.) to answer questions. Sima Environmental only represents SSI in partnership with Municipal Pipeline Technologies in Florida.

In addition, Kami Hall Lienau will also be demonstrating the Aqua Seal hydrophobic grout. Leaks like this one cost municipalities countless dollars in treatment and conveyance over years. Calling in a contractor to repair one or two leaks is cost prohibitive. The Aqua Seal is a 2 part grout that is pumped through a 2 part caulk gun and disposable mixer. Unlike other grouts many of you have tried, the Aqua Seal is a rapid setting, 20-1 expansion ratio grout. In 3-5 seconds a 50 gpm gusher can be stopped.
