The recent winner of the AC-NET innovative product of the year Hadronex Smartcover is an ultrasonic flow level sensor. Users determine the high flow level point where they want to be alarmed. By two way radio signal, an alarm is sent to Hadronex, who then relays immediate warnings to as many individuals as needed via text message, email, or page. With the advance notice, municipalities have been prevented hundreds of sanitary sewer overflows.

The Smartcover is mounted on the underside of the manhole casting held in place with 4 heavy duty magnets. A tether is also installed for further protection. The Smartcover is powered by a lithium batter power pack so power outages do not affect it's performance. The power pack has an estimated life of 1 year, and is continuously monitored for strength. A warning will be sent out should the battery be nearing the end of its life cycle.

Owners of Smartcovers are given their own private web site to monitor the data collected and graphed by the units. Measurements are taken every 6 minutes by the unit and uploaded every 10 hours to the web site. At any point, the owner may taken an instant measurement or change high level alarm settings from a remote location. Rain event data can be easily superimposed onto the flow level charts, allowing owners to see the affects of i/i on flow levels in a particular area. Through monitoring flow levels, slow developing blockages usually from "F.R.O.G.S." , can be identified. Thus maintenance personal can be allocated on as needed schedule, rather than on a rigid, less efficient program.

* Locations subject to sewer backups and overflows
* As high level sensors at lift stations/wet wells
* On 2-5% of all manholes as a comprehensive S.S.O. prevention program
* Locations where I/I monitoring is needed.
